Santacruz is a suburb of Mumbai. It is also the name of a railway station on the Mumbai suburban railway. The airports of Mumbai (domestic and international) as well as the campus of University of Mumbai are situated in Santacuz.

History

The term Santa Cruz comes from the Portuguese word meaning Holy Cross. Immigrants from Santa Cruz, Goa first settled there thereby lending the name Santa Cruz.

Geography

The neighboring suburbs of Santacruz are Vile Parle (north), Khar (south), Juhu (east) and Kurla (west).

Santacruz is broadly divided in two areas - Santacruz (East) and Santacruz (West).

Santacruz(East) consists of Kalina, Military Camp, Vakola and land belonging to Airport Authority of India. The campus of University of Mumbai is situated at Kalina. Vakola has a major church called St. Anthony's Church and a mosque called 'Vakola Masjid'. The Airport Authority land consists of the Mumbai Airport and Air India Colony. The main roads passing through Santacruz(E) are the Western Express Highway, Nehru Road and the Kalina-Kurla Link Road. The PIN code of this area is 400044.
