Royal Norwegian Navy
The Royal Norwegian Navy is the branch of the Norwegian Defence Force responsible for naval operations. As of 2002, the Navy consists of approximately 8,000 personnel and 40 vessels, including 4 frigates, 6 submarines, 14 missile torpedo vessels, 1 minelayer, 8 minesweepers, 1 mine detection vessel, 3 landing craft, 1 support vessel, 2 training vessels. The Navy also includes the Coast Guard.
Organisation
The Navy is organized into the Fleet, the Coast Guard, and the Naval Schools. The Fleet consists of the Surface Flotilla, Submarine Flotilla, Coastal Warfare Flotilla and Mine Warfare Flotilla.
