Robert Fagles is a Professor of Comparative Literature at Princeton University. He has provided modern translations of the epic Homeric poems, The Iliad and The Odyssey, generally emphasizing contemporary English phrasing and idiom over faithfulness to the original Greek. He is also notable for his translation of Hellenic drama - particularly the works of Aeschylus.
