Rick Mercer's Monday Report is a Canadian television comedy series. The series launched in 2004 and hosted by comedian Rick Mercer, the weekly half-hour show focuses on Canadian politics, combining news parody, sketch comedy and satirical editorials. The show's format is essentially a cross between The Daily Show and Mercer's prior series, This Hour Has 22 Minutes.
On each program Mercer travels to a different part of Canada, often to communities that are currently in the news, collecting opinions, reactions, and quotes from people on the street. There he also does his "streeters", the rants about current issues that he popularized on 22 Minutes.
Also there is a segment where regular correspondents goes out and checks cool things out.
In the beginning part of each show, Canadian politics and comedy come together as Mercer does his monologue in front of a live audience in Toronto, Ontario in Canada.
Monday Report is produced by Island Edge Inc and the CBC. The show will return Mondays at 9pm on October 18, 2004 for a second season.
