Revival is a restoration of something, usually referring to the concept of coming back to life from the dead. A famous example of this type of revival is Lazarus, revived by the power of Jesus and God, as told in the Christian Bible. The term may also be used to refer to a "revival meeting".
Another type of revival refers to fads. When a fad is coming back into style, it is said to be having a revival. This fad may be called retro.
A revival is also a term referring to a new production of a former hit play on Broadway or the West End. Because so many of the shows playing on Broadway at any one time are revivals, and the material has often proven to be winning material, the Tony Awards consider revivals separately from original productions.
