Research Triangle Park (RTP) is a research park located near Raleigh, Durham, and Chapel Hill, in the Research Triangle region of North Carolina. It is one of the most prominent high-tech research and development centers in the United States and has been compared to Silicon Valley. It was created in 1959 by nearby universities and enterprises. Karl Robbins bought the land where the park is now built.

The park is 7,000 acres (28 km&sup2) situated in a pine forest with approximately 1,100 acres (4.5 km&sup2) for development. Currently more than 100 R&D facilities exist at RTP with some 38,500 employees. The park is next to Interstate 40 and the Durham Freeway.
