Republic of Crimea

Republic of Crimea (Автономна Республіка Крим, Avtonomna Respublika Krym in Ukrainian) is an autonomous republic of Ukraine located at the Crimean Peninsula. It borders the Kherson region from the North, the rest of the border is the Black Sea in the South and West and Sea of Azov on the East. The area is 26,200 sq.km, population 2.1 mln. (2000). The capital is Simferopol.

The city of Sevastopol is located within the republic, but it has a special municipality status in Ukraine.
