Ralph Gonsalves



         


Ralph Everard Gonsalves (born 1945), popularly known as "Comrade Ralph," is the Prime Minister of St Vincent and the Grenadines. He is leader of the Unity Labour Party, and won the 2001 general elections with a landslide, after a close run in the 1998 elections.

Gonsalves is an intellectual who has spoken of a "Caribbean civilization" and advocates a closer union of the various small island nations and territories in the region. He is compared to Rosie Douglas of Dominica, George Odlum of Saint Lucia and Tim Hector of Antigua and Barbuda.
