RAPM

RAPM (the Russian Association of Proletarian Musicians) was a musicians' organisation of the early Soviet period.

The group was founded in 1925, and by the late 1920s had become the country's most powerful organisation in the field. It advocated strict adherence to the demands of socialist realism: depictions of revolutionary topics in a form easily accessible to "the people".

The organisation was abolished in 1932 when Stalin instituted direct control of the arts through the system of unions (in this case, the Composers' Union).
