PSX is a popular acronym for the Playstation video game console. The "X" stems from the fact that the original design of the Playstation was intended to be a CD-ROM add-on for the SNES created by Sony, but when the project was halted by Nintendo, Sony redesigned the PlayStation as a stand alone CD based video game system internally dubbed "PlayStation X". The media caught wind of the name and it has stuck ever since.
PSX is also the name of a Sony made DVD player/burner/PVR/PlayStation 2 all in one unit marketed in Japan and later in 2004 will be sold in Europe. It features either a 160 GB or 250 GB hard drive to record television shows, home movies, digital photos or for use with PlayStation 2 titles compatible with the PlayStation 2 hard disk drive.
