Prince of Persia The Sands of Time

Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time was one of the key releases from Ubi Soft in 2003. The sequel to the landmark PC Game Prince of Persia, created by Jordan Mechner in 1990 (also responsible for its sequel, The Shadow and the Flame), successfully captures the mechanics of the original platformer and extends it to the 3D generation.

An earlier attempt, made by The Learning Company, to transfer the game to 3D (as Prince of Persia 3D) was released in 1999 but failed to meet the standards set by the franchise.

The game was developed internally at Ubi Soft Montreal Studios for the PC, Playstation 2, Gamecube and Xbox, and was praised for its visual design and finely tuned game mechanics. It won several awards at the end of the year.

Initial sales were below expectations, but the title picked up after strong reviews from the game press.

A sequel will be released in 2004 for the same formats.
