Prince Gong, 1833 - 1898, was a younger brother of Emperor Xianfeng, the husband of Empress Dowager Ci'an, and Cixi, in China's Qing Dynasty.
He became the defacto regent in 1861 after getting rid of Sushun who was xenophobic. Prince Gong with the support of the two dowagers, ruled China until the 1880s, but was demoted after being accused of being rude in front of the dowagers. In the 1890s Empress Dowager Cixi asked him to return to court, but he died shortly afterwards.
He was a great statesman compared to his brother, Emperor Hsien Feng.
