Popeye's Fried Chicken

Popeye's Fried Chicken is a fast food chicken restaurant.

Popeye's first opened in New Orleans, Lousiana in 1972 as "Chicken on the Run," a chicken restaurant owned by Al Copeland. Today, the chicken can be ordered mild or spicy, and is usually served with a cajun-style side dish. Side dishes include red beans and rice, Cajun rice, mashed potatoes or corn on the cob. There have been other items on the menu such as the crawfish Po-Boy, or shrimp etouffee. The buildings have a distinctive red and yellow color scheme.

The chain is not named after Popeye the Sailor as one might surmise, but after "Popeye" Doyle of The French Connection fame.
