Pikmin

The first Pikmin game was released December 3, 2001 in North America and June 15, 2002 in Europe.

In Pikmin, the main character is Captain Olimar, a spaceman from the planet Hocotate. The story starts when Olimar is taking a vacation in outer space. However, during his flight, a meteorite hits his spaceship, and it crashes on a unknown planet. Parts of the spaceship fell off as it plummeted to the ground.

When he regained consciousness, Olimar found out that the planet's atmosphere contained oxygen, which is poisonous to the people from Hocotate, and he could only stay on the planet for 30 days. The player, as Olimar, must retrieve all 30 spaceship parts.

Pikmin 2

Main article: Pikmin 2

Pikmin 2 is the sequel to the original Pikmin. It is currently released in Japan and North America. The current release date for Europe is November 9. In this version, Olimar has successfully returned home to the planet of Hocotate, where he learns that his freight company has a debt to pay off. With the latest recruit, Louie, he must return to the Pikmin planet to find treasure worth 10,000 "Pokos". There is no day limit, but players receive a better score for fewer days. Players can switch between Olimar and Louie to multitask to groups of Pikmin. Also, two new types, large purple ones and small white ones have been added.

The Pikmin

The Pikmin are approximately one inch tall. They eat nectar (which matures them into flower Pikmin) and breath oxygen.

During his journey, Olimar finds these creatures in their spaceships called Onions. Pikmin are divided into three main colors:

During the sequel to Pikmin, Olimar and Louie discover new types of Pikmin by travelling underground. These Pikmin are unique and do not have Onions.

Olimar uses the Pikmin to defeat enemies, carry objects such as parts for the spaceship or pellets, demolishing walls, pushing large boxes, and constructing various objects to get around easier.

More Pikmin are created by taking enemies back to the Onion or finding food pellets with numbers on them. The pellets are colored red, blue, or yellow. When the Pikmin carry the pellet to the Onion, more Pikmin will be created. If a pellet is brought back to the Onion of the same color, more Pikmin than normal will be created.

The number of the Pikmin on the field cannot exceed 100.
