Pietas



         


In Roman mythology, Pietas was the goddess of duty towards one's state, gods and family. It was also one of the Roman virtues. It was implied in Vergil's Aeneid that disorganised fury is the nature of the universe, and the only way to contain such mindless violence is through pietas.
