The Peugeot 206 is a car manufactured by Peugeot. It was launched in 1998 as replacement for the 205. It is mainly manufactured in Peugeot's Mulhouse factory although some versions are made at Ryton in Coventry, England.
It was initially sold with 1.1, 1.4 and 1.6 litre petrol engines as well as a 1.9 turbo diesel. In 1999 a 2.0 GTI capable of 130mph was added to the range. There was also the the GTI 180 engine, capable of over 140mph. The 206 was praised for its styling, handling and refinement. The build quality was a big step forward over previous models.
In 2001, two more versions of the 206 were launched - the 206 CC (Coupe Cabriolet) with a folding steel roof and the 206 SW (Sports Wagon) which was a 5 seater mini MPV.
The Peugeot 206 has proved to be a sales success all over Europe. In 2002, it was the second best selling car in Britain - second only to the Ford Focus.
The marketing of the Peugeot 206 has also been greatly assisted by the considerable successes of the Peugeot rally team in the World Rally Championships in recent years.
