Pessary
A pessary is an object inserted into the vagina and held in place by the pelvic floor musculature. There are roughly two types of pessary:
- The occlusive pessary, which - generally in combination with a spermicide - is used as a contraceptive; please refer to cervical cap for more details.
- The therapeutic pessary, which is used to alleviate conditions featuring prolapse.
