Paul Robinson

Spider Robinson was born Paul Robinson on November 24, 1948 in New York City. He has lived in Canada for the past 30 years and as an author, he is a Hugo and Nebula award winning science fiction author. He also worked as a book reviewer for the Galaxy science fiction magazine during the mid- to late 1970s and later contributed book reviews to the original anthology series Destinies. He also serves as a columnist in the technology section of the Globe and Mail. Currently (early 2004) working on and with a 1955 lengthy outline of the late Robert A. Heinlein in order to expand it into a novel, thus making it a collaborative effort.

Allusions in various novels and stories make it clear that another past writer whom Robinson admires almost as much as he admires Heinlein is the mystery writer John D. MacDonald. A major character in the Callahan's series is clearly named in honor of Travis McGee, and in one recent novel a group of Robinson's major characters make a visit to the marina near Fort Lauderdale where the Busted Flush was usually moored in the McGee series.
