Paul Douglas Coverdell (January 20, 1939 - July 19, 2000) was the director of the Peace Corps from 1989 until 1991. He was also a Republican senator from Georgia. He was elected for the first time in 1992 and re-elected in 1998. He died while still in the Senate of a cerebral hemorrhage.
