Pauillac is a small village and port on the Gironde estuary, famed for producing some of the finest and longest-lasting red wine in the world.
The village boasts a mere 3000 acres (12 km²) of vineyards in the Haut-Médoc between the villages of St-Julien to the south and St Estèphe to the north, yet has the unique distinction of being home to three of Bordeaux's five first growth wines: Château Lafite-Rothschild, Château Latour, and Château Mouton-Rothschild.
