Patrice Lumumba University
The Peoples' Friendship University of Russia (Росси́йский Университе́т Дру́жбы Наро́дов, РУДН) is located in Moscow. It has been founded in 1960 as "Peoples' Friendship University". Its primary goal was to help nations of Africa, Asia and Latin America to prepare native specialists and to give poor young people from those countries a possibility to get university-degree education.
In the first year, 539 foreign students from 59 countries have been enlisted (plus 57 Soviet students). Today there are 3200 students plus 140 post-graduate students from 82 countries.
In 1961, the university has been given the name of Patrice Lumumba and became "Patrice Lumumba Peoples' Friendship University".
In 1992 the university has been renamed as the "Peoples' Friendship University of Russia".
