Padma Vibhushan



         


The Padma Vibhushan, established January 2, 1954, is the second highest civilian honor of India, after the Bharat Ratna but before the Padma Bhushan and the Padma Sri. It is awarded to recognize exceptional and distinguished service to the nation in any field, including government service. It was suspended from July 13, 1977 to January 26, 1980.

One recipient is Lata Mangeshkar, granted the medal January 26, 1999.
