Orhan Pamuk
Orhan Pamuk (born 1952) is a Turkish writer. He is a post-modern author of such novels as Mr. Cevdet and His Sons, Black Book, The White Castle, The New Life, Silent House, My Name Is Red, Snow and his latest book Istanbul.
His books are characterized by a confusion or loss of identity brought on in part by the conflict between European and Islamic values. They are often disturbing or unsettling, but include complex, intriguing plots and characters of great depth. His works are also redolent with discussion and fascination with the creative arts, such as literature and painting.
Pamuk was born in Istanbul in early 1950s. In his country he is also severely criticized by some of his critics for being an orientalist.
