Operation Restore Hope was an American military operation with the support of the United Nations which was formed to deliver humanitarian aid and restore order to the African nation of Somalia which was suffering from a severe famine and was ruled by a number of warlords.
The operation quickly began to go badly as the people reacted against the American forces. Within a year, warrants were issued placing warlord Mohamed Farrah Aidid under arrest but he was never caught. When eighteen American soldiers were killed in the Battle of Mogadishu it was then decided to withdraw the American forces.
