An Olympiad is a period of four years between two celebrations of the Olympic Games. Each Olympiad ends with the celebration of Games, known as the Games of the Olympiad. The term Olympiad is often also used to indicate the Games of the Olympiad, but this is technically incorrect.
The term Olympiad is also attached to scientifical competitions, such as the International Mathematical Olympiad, or the International Olympiad in Informatics.
