Tarkin is a video codec formerly under development by Xiph.org Foundation and it is part of the Ogg umbrella group of multimedia products. Tarkin has been put on hold, with Theora becoming the main focus for video encoding inside Ogg.
Tarkin is to be based on wavelet compression. It was named after Grand Moff Tarkin from the movie Star Wars.
