An off-licence (or offie) is a liquor store licensed for the sale of alcoholic beverages for consumption off the premises, as opposed to a bar or public house which would be licensed for consumption on the premises, rather in the way that for food a take-away contrasts with a restaurant.
Off-licences may be specialist shops, convenience stores, parts of supermarkets, or attached to bars and pubs. Prices are typically substantially lower than in bars or pubs.
