The Objective Individual Combat Weapon or OICW is the name for a next-generation assault rifle that was under development as part of the OICW program. The winner was firearms manufacturer Heckler und Koch along with its consortium of companies, who will go on to build the rifle for the United States military. The OICW has since been redesignated the XM29, also seen XM-29 OICW. Both OICW prototypes fired NATO 5.56 mm ammunition and a new 20mm HE Smart Grenade.
