O-Train

The Transitway is a system of roads in the City of Ottawa, Ontario, Canada that is for buses only, (or has bus only lanes) and is operated by OC Transpo. It consists of two main lines: a South-West to East line and a West to South-East line (which is now operated as two overlapping bus routes). It also consists of the O-Train line, which is a diesel light rail line owned by OC transpo running north-south.

Many of the Transitway roads are above or below the grade of normal streets in Ottawa, by the use of overpasses, bridges, and trench highways. Thus, they rarely intersect directly the regular traffic and make it possible for the buses (and emergency vehicles such as fire engines) to continue at full speed even during rush hour. Chief exception to this is in the downtown section of the Central Transitway, where the busway consists of a single bus-only lane on each of Albert and Slater Streets (one-way public streets in opposite east and west directions). Traffic congestion here, where the buses mingle with private vehicles, sometimes causes service delays and is seen by some as the main weakness in the Transitway system.

The Transitway routes generally use low-floor "accessible" buses, with an aim to improve access to the service by the elderly and handicapped, and to speed up boarding by other passengers.

Old Route 97 (West to South-East)

Prior to September 5, 2004, routes 96 and 97 operated as a single route under the number 97. This was because route 97 was very long and had difficulty staying on schedule. The route number '96' had been discontinued over five years prior to its re-introduction (it did not run the same route as the current 96).
