The Norton Sound is an inlet of the Bering Sea in western Alaska, south of the Seward Peninsula. It is about 240 km (150 miles) long and 200 km (125 miles) wide. The Yukon River flows into Norton Sound on it southeast side.
Norton Sound is ice-free from May to October.
The Norton Sound area has been home to Yupik for many centuries. The Alaskan town of Nome is at the edge of Norton Sound. The villages of Elim, Golovin, Stebbins, White Mountain and Unalakleet are on the shores of Norton Sound.
