Newcastle-under-Lyme Canal



         


The 'Newcastle-under-Lyme Canal was a 6 mile stretch of canal, built in two parts. The first, linking the town with the Trent and Mersey Canal at Stoke-on-Trentwas granted it's Act of Parliament in 1795 and was completed in 1800. The second part, completed soon after linked the town to Sir Nigel Gresley's Canal. The cananl's main cargo was coal.

The canal has been in disuse since 1935.
