Nevada counties
Nevada has 16 counties and one independent city:
- Churchill County one of the original 9 counties formed in 1861.
- Clark County formed in 1908 from Lincoln county.
- Douglas County one of the original 9 counties formed in 1861.
- Elko County formed in 1869 from part of Lander county.
- Esmeralda County one of the original 9 counties formed in 1861.
- Eureka County formed in 1873 from part of Lander county.
- Humboldt County one of the original 9 counties formed in 1861.
- Lander County formed in 1862 from parts of Churchill and Humboldt counties.
- Lincoln County formed in 1866 from parts of Nye county and territory ceded by Arizona.
- Lyon County one of the original 9 counties formed in 1861.
- Mineral County created in 1911 from part of Esmeralda county.
- Nye County formed in 1864 from part of Esmeralda county.
- Pershing County formed in 1919 from part of Humboldt county.
- Storey County one of the original 9 counties formed in 1861.
- Washoe County one of the original 9 counties formed in 1861.
- White Pine County formed in 1869 from part of Lander county.
- Carson City (the state capital) formed in 1969 from Ormsby county.
Defunct counties:
Bullfrog County, Nevada formed in 1987 from part of Nye county. Abolished in 1989.
Lake County, Nevada one of the original 9 counties formed in 1861. Renamed Roop county in 1862. Annexed in 1883 to Washoe county.
