Net Yaroze

Net Yaroze (yarozei, or phonetically ya row zey vb. means "Let's do it together!" or "Let's work together!") was a product promoted by Sony to get hobby programmers familar with the PlayStation development environment so that they could make games for the PlayStation console. Sony's thinking was that if they had a way for beginning game programmers to tinker around on their console they might eventually come across a programmer who would create a fantastic game which would be exclusive to their console. For about $US700 you would get a special debugging PlayStation (which looked like a black PlayStation unit), documentation, and software. You still had to provide the computer to write the code, compile it, and send the program to the PSX. Net Yaroze was compatible with standard IBM Pc's and Mac Computers.

Many games made by private persons, programmed on the Net Yaroze, were released on various demo CD's along with the Official PlayStation Magazine. This let PlayStation gamers everwhere try out the games made on the Net Yaroze.
