Navy Marine Corps Intranet

NMCI stands for Navy Marine Corps Intranet. NMCI is an effort to coordinate NIPRNET access and access to Command and Control systems on a standard, fault tolerant network. Currently, NMCI is being phased in by EDS.

Among the benefits offered by NMCI to its subscribers:

Data encryption for sensitive documents such as e-mail
Remote access to productivity software such as Microsoft Office

NMCI has been from its beginnings. Common criticisms include spotty network connectivity and sheer difficulty of use.
