Nasir al-Din Nasir Hunzai
Partawi Shah, who after achieving his scholarly reputation renamed himself as Prof Dr Allamah Nasir al-Din Nasir Hunzai, is a famous poet of the Northern Areas of Pakistan. He was born in 1917, in Hyderabad, a small village of Hunza. His formal education could not go beyound primary school, but he received an honrary degree of PhD from a university and has been appointed honrary university professor. He is the first Sufi poet to have a Diwan (collection of poems) in the Burushaski language, and is the author of more than one hundred books, of which many have been translated into English, French, Swedish, Persian, Turkish, and Gujarati languages. His works on the Burushaski language, grammar, vocabulary, history and traditions is highly appriciated while his spritual status is under a shadow of controversies and his opponents acuse him of creating a new cult.
