History

NAC (NOAD ADVENDO Combinatie) was founded in 1912 when the two clubs NOAD and ADVENDO merged.

NOAD stands for Nooit Opgeven Altijd Doorgaan (english: Never give up, always go on). ADVENDO stands for Aangenaam Door Vermaak En Nuttig Door Ontspanning (english: Pleasant for its entertainment and useful for its relaxation).

In 1921, NAC became Dutch champion. In 1973, they won the Dutch Cup.

In 1996, NAC left the old stadium 'aan de Beatrixstraat' in city centre for a brand new 16,000 all-seater just outside the city centre.

Early 2003, NAC changed their name to NAC Breda. Due too bad management, NAC had financial problems. The city of Breda offered to buy NAC's Rat Verlegh stadium to give the club extra cash (NAC rents the stadium from the city of Breda now). As thank, NAC added the 'Breda' to their name.

In 2003, NAC Breda qualified for the UEFA Cup (despite the financial problems). In the first round, NAC Breda had to play against the big Newcastle United. It was one of the biggest happenings in the last decade.

In 2004, NAC defeated both PSV Eindhoven and Ajax Amsterdam in the Dutch Cup (both in their own stadiums). However, in the semifinals NAC was eliminated in Enschede by FC Twente. Reaching the semi's and eliminating the two top teams was considered a good result.
