Murmansk Oblast



         


Murmansk Oblast (Му́рманская о́бласть) is an oblast in north-western Russia. It's administrative center is Murmansk. Area 144,900 km², population 1,083,000 (1985).

Geographically it is located mainly on the Kola Peninsula, and it is a part of the larger Lapland region that spans over four countries. Murmansk Oblast borders to Karelia, Finnmark County in Norway and Lapland Province in Finland. Norrbotten County in Sweden is also located nearby.
