Mount Nyiragongo is an active volcano in the Virunga Mountains of the Democratic Republic of the Congo.

A stratovolcano, Mount Nyiragongo emits the fastest-flowing lava in the world. As it is located a few kilometres from the city of Goma, these flows are extremely dangerous.

It last erupted on January 17, 2002, displacing an estimated 400,000 people.
