Mohammad Reza Khatami
Mohammad Reza Khatami (محمدرضا خاتمی in Persian) born in 1959 in Ardakan, Iran, is the secretary-general of the Islamic Iran Participation Front, the younger brother of the fifth Iranian president Mohammad Khatami, and the former deputy speaker of the Iranian parliament. He is the son of Ayatollah Ruhollah Khatami.
He was elected in March of 2000 for the sixth term of the Islamic Republic's parliament's election as the first MP of Tehran with 1,794,365 votes from the people of Tehran. Before that, he had been deputy minister in the Ministry of Health for two years. He has also acted as the manager in charge of the now-banned reformist daily Mosharekat.
His is educated in medicine and before entering the world of politics he was a practicing urologist for a number of years.
In 1983, he married Zahra Eshraghi, granddaughter of Ruhollah Khomeini (founder of the Islamic republic), and an activist in women's rights. They have two children - a daughter, Fatemeh, and a son, Ali.
