Wilhelm Mirbach (1871 - 1918), Count, German diplomat. Participated in the Soviet-German negotiations in Brest-Litovsk (December, 1917 - March, 1918). He was appointed German ambassador to RSFSR in April, 1918. He was assassinated by two left SRs at the request of the Central Committee of the Left SR's Party, who tried to incite a war between Russia and Germany. Mirbach's assassination signaled the beginning of the Left SRs Riot in Moscow in 1918.
