The Metropolitana Region (RM) is a landlocked region located in the center of Chile. It is the country's most populated region. The nation's capital, Santiago de Chile, is located here. Most commerce and administrative centers are located in this region, including Chile's main international airport Arturo Merino Benítez. The region was created in 1974, during Augusto Pinochet's dictatorship.
