Mephisto (comics)
Mephisto (short for Mephistopheles) is a fictional character in the Marvel Comics' universe. He is an extradimensional demon of unknown origin,
though he claims to have been created by the omnipotent being that eventually became the Infinity Gems. He has often claimed to be, or been mistaken for, Biblical Satan or another legendary devil. Mephisto first appeared in Silver Surfer volume 1 #3 (1968). He has since come into conflict with numerous superheroes and mystical heroes. In the 1980s he starred in a miniseries, Mephisto Versus..., in which the battled The Avengers, the Fantastic Four, and several other Marvel heroes. He was briefly partnered with Thanos while the latter held the Infinity Gauntlet. He has a demonic son named Blackheart, who once took over the throne of Mephisto's "Hell".
