The Melton greater metropolitan train line is a subsection of the Ballarat regional train line in Victoria, Australia. It is incorporated into the capital city Melbourne's suburban railway network and is within Zone 2 of the Metcard ticketing system. The line branches away from the Sydenham suburban line at Sunshine station with all services departing from Spencer Street Station in the central business district.
The line consists of dual track until just west of Deer Park station where it becomes a single bi-directional track. There is another stretch of double track close to Rockbank station to facilitate the passing of trains. Despite the Victorian Regional Fast Rail Project, there are no plans to duplicate this line.
The Melton line occasionally experiences delays due to the antiquated nature of its signalling system.
There are a variety of trains on the line including V/Line Sprinter trains as well as older H and N type diesel trains.
