Medal

Medals are usually either an order or decoration awarded for service to a country (usually Armed force service), or a table medal.

Order or decoration

Traditionally, an military medal is a metal shape (usually a round disk) suspended by a strip of ribbon or fabric, often from a top bar. Medals are traditionally worn on the left side of one's shirt or jacket, normally on formal white tie occasions. There are also medals that are worn around the neck. In the military, medals are worn on uniforms on formal occasions. In day to day wear, or certain military occasions, they are represented in the form of thin fabric bars on the left side of the uniform.

Table medal

Generally circular, table medals are issued for artistic or souvenir purposes, not for commerce. Tokens and Medals are part of the Exonumia subcategory of Numismatics, while Orders and Decoration Medals are Armed force (Military) related.
