Marta Suplicy is São Paulo's mayor. A former sexologist, she has supported gay rights in her administration.
New elections are forthcoming in November 2004. Among the other candidates is former mayor Paulo Maluf, who denies any knowledge in more than 183 civil suits against him, including an international one for having appropriated more than US$200,000,000 and deposited them in Switzerland.
