Marat Safin



         


Marat Mikhailovich Safin (Russian: Марат Михайлович Сафин; Tatar: Marat Mixail ulı Safin pron. Mah-RAT SAH-fin; b. January 27, 1980), Russian tennis player, born in Moscow, Russia.

He turned pro in 1997.

In 2000, Safin won the US Open Grand Slam tournament. He also reached the final of the Australian Open in 2002 and 2004. He has struggled with injuries, being limited to 14 tournaments in 2003.

His sister Dinara Safina is also a tennis player.

Marat Safin is ethnically a Tatar.
