Manor house is a term for a large house, particularly one which historically formed the centre of a manor estate (see Manorialism. They are typically much larger and better constructed that surrounding buildings, as under the feudal system, they were owned by local lords who owned and controlled the surrounding area. Examples of manor houses can be found across the world, and particularly in northern Europe.
