Maltase

Maltase is one enzyme produced by the cells lining the small intestine to break down disaccharides.

In the small intestine the bond that holds two glucose molecules together cannot be splited by amylase or other enzymes used to digest polysaccharides. Maltase is the enzyme that splits Maltose, malt sugar, into two separate glucose molecules.
