Magnetic Hill
Magnetic Hill, New Brunswick, Canada, is a tourist attraction discovered in 1931 but rumored to exist long before that. It consists of a short section of road which appears to run downhill. Visitors may, for a small fee, drive their cars to the end of this road, where the cars are placed in neutral; the cars then begin to roll backwards, apparently uphill. Around this small piece of road, a sigificant tourist centre has sprung up, all bearing the logo of a large horseshoe magnet. This park includes a small narrow-gauge railroad, a zoo, some water slides, and many gift shops.
The hill itself is not magnetic; in fact it is an optical illusion created by the surrounding terrain. The section of road in question is actually uphill but gives a very convincing appearance of being downhill.
