Magnesium carbonate, also known as magnesite when found in nature, is a chemical compound with a variety of uses. The chemical is white or colorless, and is used to make magnesium oxide.

Magnesium carbonate is added to table salts to prevent caking and used in gymnastics and weightlifting to provide a good grip. It is a white, odorless, light compound, and its chemical formula is MgCO3.

The compound has a molecular weight of 84.31 and a specific gravity of 3.009.
